How team scores and match results are calculated

Why did that squad win? This page explains every ingredient that goes into a team score, in the order the game applies them.

Step 1 — the base rating

Every card has a hidden rating. Ratings are balanced for the 2026 season, with the very top of the game sitting in the low nineties rather than the inflated numbers you see in some games. Your starting point is the average rating of your eleven players, so one very weak card costs you roughly a tenth of your foundation.

    Step 2 — rarity tiers

Cards fall into four tiers, which is what the colours on the result screen mean:

    • Common — under 82
    • Rare — 82 to 87
    • Epic — 88 to 92
    • Legendary — 93 and above

Tiers are hidden during the draft on purpose. You only see them once the eleven is complete, which is what keeps the reveal worth watching.

    Step 3 — boosts

Draft boosts (on fire, captain, legend mode) each add to the team total and each land at most once per team per game. They reward how you drafted, not just who you drafted.

    Step 4 — synergy

Players sharing a nationality generate a synergy bonus, drawn as gold pass lines between them on the pitch. Legends contribute additional synergy. Synergy is added on top of the average, so a nationally coherent squad reliably out-scores a random collection of similar ratings.

    Step 5 — the coach

The coach is weighted heavily in the final calculation — around half as much as the eleven combined. This is deliberate: it means a draft that went badly is never hopeless, and it gives the last pick of the game real tension.

Step 6 — the stadium and match modifiers

The stadium you have equipped changes the match itself rather than the team score. Beach, for instance, produces more misses; Space boosts ratings and adds an extra goal chance. Seasonal events and match modifiers can apply their own twists on a given day.

    Step 7 — the simulation

The final score is not the team score. Two teams with similar scores can still produce a 3-2 or a 0-0, because chances are simulated phase by phase on a full-size pitch. A stronger squad wins most of the time, not all of the time — the same as real football.

    Match Coins

Coins are awarded on the result screen and are calculated on the server, so they are the same whichever device you play on. Spend them in the shop on perks, stadium themes and national kits. Signed-in managers keep their balance in the cloud; guests keep it in the browser only.

    Frequently asked questions

Why did my higher-rated team lose the match?
The team score sets your chance of winning, it does not decide the result. Chances are simulated phase by phase, so a squad that is a few points better wins most of the time but not every time — exactly like a favourite losing a cup tie in real football.
Do ratings show during the draft?
No. Ratings and rarity colours stay hidden until your eleven is complete. You judge a card on the player, the position and the fun fact, which is what makes the reveal worth watching.
How much does the coach really matter?
A lot. The coach pick carries roughly half the weight of the eleven outfield and goalkeeper cards combined, so a poor draft can still be rescued with the twelfth pick.
    Can I lose Match Coins?
Never through playing. Coins are only spent when you buy something in the shop, and every award is calculated on the server so the totals match on every device you sign in from.
